Dr Jessica Gordon Nembhard

Dr. Gordon Nembhard is Professor of Community Justice and Social Economic Development in the Department of Africana Studies at John Jay College, of the City University of New York (CUNY). Dr Gordon Nembhard specializes in community economics, Black Political Economy, and popular economic literacy. Her research and publications explore problematics and alternative solutions in cooperative economic development, solidarity economics, worker ownership, community economic development, community-based asset building, and finally, community-based approaches to justice. She is the author of Collective Courage: A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought and Practice published in 2014. In 2016 she was inducted into the US cooperative Hall of Fame. She is also a Faculty and Fellow and Mentor with the Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing at Rutgers University School of Management and labor Relations. She is also importantly a proud mother and grandmother.
