Dr. Gordon-Nembhard Depicted in Detroit Co-op Mural

DISE Collective member and elder Dr. Jessica Gordon-Nembhard has been recognized for her work in a mural at a Black Detroit Food Co-op. She shares the space at The Detroit People’s Food Co-op with WEB Du Bois, Fannie Lou Hamer,  A. Phillip Randolph,  Ella Jo Baker, George Schuyler, and Nannie Helen Burroughs. Dr. Gordon-Nembhard is depicted with her 2014 book Collective Courage : A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought and Practice

Dr. Jessica Gordon Nembhard has studied the immense history of Black co-operatives for over fifteen years. Her 2014 book, Collective Courage: A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought and Practice sheds light on the untold contributions Black co-operatives have provided in today’s powerful movement of cooperative structures in business and community.
