Ujima’s 2024-25 Black Feminist Economics Fellow

As The Boston Ujima Project’s 2024 - 2025 Feminist Economics Fellow, Dr. Caroline Shenaz Hossein will be speaking about her book The Banker Ladies: Vanguards of Solidarity Economics and Community-Based Banks.

The Boston Ujima Project is a leading Black-led organization that builds cooperative businesses, arts, and investment ecosystems. Its signature research initiative, the Feminist Economic Fellowship Program, represents its ongoing commitment to broadening the scope and practices of both formal and informal economic development.

At this event, Dr. Hossein will examine how Black and racialized women have long been at the forefront of informal banking systems, building collective wealth through mutual aid and cooperative finance. Join us to explore the power of community-based banking, its role in economic justice, and how these historical practices continue to shape solidarity economies today.
